About TYF
TYF is an outdoor education and adventure organisation based in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. We deliver adventure experiences and outdoor learning that help people build confidence, develop skills, and discover what they are capable of through enjoyable, engaging challenge in real outdoor environments.
The name TYF comes from Tŵr y Felin — the old windmill that housed the organisation in its early years. What began as a place rooted firmly in the Pembrokeshire landscape grew into a centre known for quality adventure, skilled instruction, and innovation. As the organisation evolved and moved to St Davids High Street, the name naturally shortened to TYF, while its foundations in place, practice, and experience remained.
From its beginnings in the 1980s, TYF has been shaped by adventures. Surfing, kayaking, climbing, and exploring the coastline were not just a job, but a way of life. This holistic approach was the catalyst to TYF building a reputation for delivering high-quality courses, led by experienced instructors who truly understood the value of learning through doing. This passion for exploration and adventure also led to TYF pioneering coasteering as an adventure activity.
Today, TYF continues to be guided by the belief that people are capable of more than they often realise. Drawing on a Hahnian approach to outdoor education, we use adventure and outdoor learning to create experiences that are fun, engaging, and appropriately challenging. Through time spent outdoors, people gain confidence, develop capability, and build a deeper understanding of the environments they are part of.
Working in some of the UK’s most iconic coastal and land environments brings responsibility. We aim to manage our activities carefully, minimise unnecessary impact, and encourage those who join us to treat the outdoors with respect. By helping people feel more connected to the places they use through experience, we believe they are more likely to value them, look after them, and carry that sense of responsibility forward.
TYF today is a place where adventure, outdoor education, and experience come together with a clear purpose. Whether someone joins us for an activity session, a training course, or a longer programme, the aim is the same: to offer experiences that matter beyond the day itself — experiences that people carry forward To Their Future.
