Outdoor education at TYF Adventure is rooted in a clear purpose: using adventure and experience to help young people grow into resilient, adaptable individuals who can meet challenge with confidence. Set within dynamic natural environments, our programmes create meaningful learning experiences that stay with students long after they return to the classroom.
We believe the outdoors is one of the most powerful places to learn. With decades of experience in adventure and outdoor education, we see every day how learning through experience builds confidence, capability, and a strong sense of self. Our programmes support personal and social development while nurturing curiosity, care for the environment, and a lasting connection to the natural world.
Experiential learning sits at the heart of everything we do. Through practical challenge and guided reflection, students learn from both success and setback: developing resilience, adaptability, and problem-solving skills that support them in education, work, and life beyond school.
Our school residential programmes are carefully designed to complement academic learning. For primary and secondary schools, this means bringing the curriculum to life through subjects such as geography, science, and PSHE. For colleges and universities, we offer tailored courses that support specialist subjects and specific learning outcomes.
From single-day visits to fully catered residential experiences, TYF Adventure delivers bespoke outdoor education programmes shaped around your students and your aims. We work with learners at every stage, from primary schools and academy trusts through to further and higher education.
TYF believe in creating programmes that are not just fun experiences to look back on with a smile but have the ability to change lives. As educators, we all know that when students are engaged and enjoying themselves, their capacity to learn multiplies exponentially. Our guides tap into that potential and, through reflection and review, bring out the key learning outcomes.
Activity: Only through real adventure in authentic environments can the characteristics of personal growth and teamwork be put to the test, enabling learning to occur naturally.
Reviewing: Without the opportunity to reflect on their experiences, the potential outcomes can be lost. Our guides are skilled in a variety of techniques which assist students to recognise the learning and growth gained from their own experiences.
Transfer: This is where TYF has the power to change lives. During their time with us, groups are given the chance to apply their newfound knowledge across various situations, reinforcing the lessons learned. Most importantly, our guides help students understand how the information, strategies, and skills they’ve acquired can be applied to new contexts, both in school and in life. This process fosters adaptable, resilient young people equipped with the skills to face life’s challenges.
At TYF Adventure, our activities are designed to spark excitement while supporting learning and growth. From the thrill of coasteering to the teamwork of paddling on a mega SUP, each experience challenges young people to step outside their comfort zone, build confidence, and discover new skills. When planning your residential, you can select the activities that best suit your group’s needs, or we can design a balanced programme that blends adventure, teamwork, and time in nature.
At TYF Adventure, we understand that a residential is about more than just activities – it’s about supporting the wider learning journey of your students. Our three focus areas, Personal Growth, Team Growth, and Eco Growth, align with key skills that build resilience, collaboration, and environmental awareness. We invite you to choose the outcomes that will best complement your group’s needs, whether that’s confidence-building, teamwork, or deepening their connection with nature. You can also share your own priorities, ensuring the experience directly supports your curriculum goals and your students’ personal development.
“We love the whole programme we had. All of your staff have
been superb, very professional, knowledgeable, fun and engaged with the children. The boys have reflected how much they have enjoyed being with TYF staff compared to other places they have been. It makes a real difference when they are not rushed or bossed about, getting encouragement and getting to know them as individuals is truly valued. Passion for the natural connection is a strong foundation for all of the outdoor activities and the boys have come away confident they would like to take each activity a little further next time they are around the beach. We have enjoyed our time once again.
Thank you for inspiring us and making our time with you so special.”
“It was challenging and rewarding for the students. It took them out of their comfort zones. It created good memories and built resilience, confidence and self-esteem.
It helped with developing teamwork, communication, reflection, building lasting friendships, and it pushed the pupils to their limits, and it provided maximum excitement.
The guides were amazing, had excellent facilitating skills and were flexible and adaptable to the group’s needs.
The whole week has been fantastic.”
