Rich and Clare

In November 2023, TYF was bought out of liquidation by Rich Carpenter and Clare Thomas. TYF wasn’t something they set out to buy – it was something they stepped in to protect. Having both worked in the outdoor industry for over 20 years, TYF was a name that, for them, was synonymous with adventure, and not something they wanted to see disappear.

Rich and Clare share a long-standing belief in the value of learning through adventure. What drew them to TYF wasn’t just the Pembrokeshire coastline or the activities themselves, but the belief that people grow best by doing things that matter, in places that matter, with time to reflect on what those experiences reveal.

They are hands-on owners. You’ll often see them around site, meeting guests, running sessions, mucking in with the team – and yes, occasionally elbows-deep in washing wetsuits. If they ask something of the team, they’ll always do it themselves too.

They love being outdoors, especially in and around the sea, and would choose fresh air and salt water over four walls any day, if they could. Owning TYF is a huge responsibility – but it’s also pretty cool.
