Coasteering was invented by TYF in 1986. It is an exhilarating blend of scrambling, leaping and traversing along the coastline, where the sea meets the land. There are spots to jump, stretches to swim, caves to explore and waves to navigate.
Since we invented Coasteering in 1986 we have helped over 100,000 of our customers explore the Pembrokeshire Coast.
Coasteering with TYF
As you scramble around pristine cliffs, swim between rocks and jump from land to sea, your arms, legs and mind will stretch. You’ll reach new levels of joy. This is true adventure.
Coasteering is TYF’s child, brought into the world 30+ years ago as we led people to the cliffs we’d explored as teenage kayakers and surfers. When you commit to coasteering, some may call you mad and widen their eyes. Mouths may drop. You’ll be impressed and others might be too.
You’ll be coasteering on Pembrokeshire’s ruggedly handsome coastline and swimming in it’s delicious clean waters which are best enjoyed in the company of friends, family or like-minded adventurers. TYF’s guides will keep you safe, teach you about nature and enable you to play. Plus, of course, they’re Instagram photo gods.

Action & Adventure for All

We booked a coasteering adventure for 4, 50 something couples, as a surprise activity on our annual get together. None of us had ever done anything like coasteering before and to say that some members of the group were “apprehensive” would be an enormous understatement. Nobody needed to worry though. Our guide John was relaxed and reassuring and made sure everyone had a great time however they felt about jumping in and out of the sea.
Some leapt in from a great height, some from a bit lower and some not at all, but we all felt like we had done something exciting and challenging and something we could be proud of. It was a typical October day in Pembrokeshire, with all the seasons passing through in the space of our 3-hour activity, but the top-quality wetsuits and safety equipment meant that we were warmer and happier in the water than out of it. We had a great morning at TYF and I would heartily recommend coasteering as a fun thing to do however adventurous you may or may not think you are. Many thanks to all who made our day so special.

I've watched people do this for decades but never tried it until now. It was great fun with some scrambling and climbing and a lot of leaping and getting wet. The instructor (John) was very thorough, safety was paramount and he was very encouraging as well. Very good equipment as well. TYF also very excellent sustainability credentials.

We went coasteering for the first time on Sunday and had a brilliant time.
We called into the TYF booking office on Saturday afternoon to enquire about possibly coasteering on Sunday. There were no sessions scheduled but the team checked with a guide called Matt who was happy to take us out the next day.
We knew there would be some scrambling, climbing and jumping involved but we were not prepared for just how much fun we would have along the way. Everything was at our own pace. Jumping in from whatever heights we were comfortable with and as many times as we wanted. What I didn’t expect was the marine biology lesson along the way. Matt knew the coastline incredibly well and would stop now and then to point out little plants and creatures and explain all about them. He was hugely knowledgable and we learned loads. The kit provided was brilliant and we were warm, cosy and safe throughout.Overall a brilliant experience and we’ll definitely be returning in the spring and bringing the kids along too.
What is coasteering?
What equipment do I need?
What if I can't swim?
When coasteering you have to wear a buoyancy aid, so being able to swim is not a requirement. We run these sessions at a small ratio of 1 guide to 8 participants which enables close support and supervision.
It was clear to us from the very early days that we’d created something magical with coasteering, and we knew it would have been relatively easy to set up a chain of coasteering centres around the UK. We chose not to do that, and grow slow, and grow strong instead.
Our efforts and energy have focused on changing the game for our customers rather than grow the pot for ourselves. TYF have worked relentlessly to raise environmental and social standards in the adventure industry and in the last 10 years; our reward has come in the form of invitations to work with Ministers and sector leaders to help shape the legislation that shapes the future.
We have watched with pride as other businesses followed our lead to make coasteering available around the world. Our mission now is to get them to care as much as we do and give more back to nature than they take, by taking actions such as switching to 100% renewable energy for their business operations, certifying with B Corp, working with environmental NGOs, schools and universities to shape the future. You’ll quite possibly have have seen our salty, smiling faces coasteering on the big screen with the BBC, ITV, Sky or online whilst teaching some incredibly talented, if a little wobbly broadcasters how we do it.We are so grateful to be able to share the joy with so many people, and we’d love to share it with you.
