Educational experiences & programmes

We work with courageous and visionary educators to collectively redesign an education system that’s fit for the future - where ‘outstanding’ means that every child leaving school is ready for the challenges that come their way including the climate and nature emergency.

We are in business to help people fall in love with nature, grow fearless curiosity and build unshakeable confidence in their ability to make a difference that counts. It is crucial that every child leaving education knows what’s coming and what they are stepping into. Carbon and planetary health literacy are vital for all teachers and pupils to be able to understand the speed and scale of change needed.

TYF is on a quest to create long-term learning partnerships with 100 of the most progressive schools and colleges and the key organisations in their communities. Co-designing the learning experiences in school and in wild places that help pupils find meaning and inspiration, to spark the imagination and actions which build a pathway towards thriving futures for all.

We work with teachers to create residential programmes, nature-based and classroom workshops that help pupils build a set of ‘backpack skills’ for a lifetime of making a difference. Each partnership will be bespoke to you and vary depending on the amount of visits each way. We suggest five workshops, along with one-two residential trips in Pembrokeshire per year. Whilst we’re confident that our locally-run programmes are hard to beat, we work wherever our clients need us to.

What inspires you most about being in nature?

Pretty much every time I go out in nature, whether that be for a surf or a dog walk, going somewhere for the first time, or the 100th time, I seem to learn or notice something new. So much of what we see in nature can, and should be brought into our everyday lives, and being open to those lessons is a beautiful thing I think. Sometimes it can be hard to find that energy, but I can't remember a time when I have come home and regretted going out!

Why is it important that young people spend time outdoors and learn about the local ecosystem?

Spending time outside inspires them to keep active to keep them healthy and encourages them to be social. Most of all though, because it's fun! The local ecosystem plays an important role in the global ecosystem, so by learning about how to look after it, we're doing our bit to save the world.

Why is it important that young people spend time outdoors?

Playing outdoors allows children to develop self-confidence and become more independent. They also become aware of their limits and boundaries. It pushes my boundaries and challenges me on a day-to-day basis, whether I'm with a group or by myself.

What causes are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about the work of two organisations: Protect Our Winters, who work to raise awareness of the effects of the climate crisis generally and highlight the impact of global heating on the snow sports industry. Surfers Against Sewage, who raise awareness of pollution in the sea, especially sewage discharge by water companies and they campaign to implement legislation to protect the ocean environment.
