Play For The Planet Adventure Weekends
Over the course of 2015, TYF are hosting a series of Play For The Planet gatherings to bring together friends new and old who love wild nature so much that they’ve made it their mission to change the way the world does business.
TYF’s Play For The Planet weekends are defined by quality playtime in some of nature’s most inspiring places, spent with some of the finest people you could wish to meet. To help ideas and energy flourish, we are inviting sustainability professionals and practitioners to join us on the Atlantic coast of Pembrokeshire in St. Davids to play and learn in the company of like-minded doers, using wild nature as our classroom.
We’ve got dates set aside for Wild Hiking, Sea Kayaking, Surfing and Coastal Explorer adventure weekends and have super-flexible planning to accommodate the needs of self-sufficient adventurers as well as enthusiastic beginners.
We’ll meet in the local pub in St.Davids on the Friday night to finalise broad plans for the days together, and after a final weather check at TYF in the morning, we’ll connect people of similar skills and interests, sort out lunches and get on our way to the nearby coast.
On the Saturday evenings, we’ll be hosting four short Play For The Planet talks to share ideas and spark discussions – based on our 30 years’ experience of organising events and parties, we suspect that there will be some late nights around the bonfire as well as early mornings to catch the sunrise.
There’s zero charge for people who bring their own equipment, and a discounted rate for anyone who needs kit or coaching. We’ll send out accommodation lists for you to book, with choices that range from the 5* Twr-y-Felin or Penrhiw Hotels through to guesthouses or AirBnB at Whitesands at Andy M’s eco house.
Hiking the Wild Edge
17-19 April 2015 | 23-25 October 2015
Two days of walking the Pembrokeshire Coast, spending time beach combing and drinking fresh brewed coffee around driftwood fires with glowing faces. Wild Edge weekends will give great memories and inspiration a top up and put a spring in your step that’ll last for months.
Some of the best walks on the coast are on the wildest days when we hike out to the furthest headlands to watch the majesty of the ocean, whipped by gale force winds. There are few things as wonderful as feeling small and insignificant in the teeth of a winter storm, knowing that every wave that breaks, like every step we take, makes a difference. Whatever the weather, we’ll make the most of it, and even on the windiest days, there’s usually a sheltered spot to find for a breather or a picnic lunch that we know from our own childhood explorations of these magical clifftops.
There are dozens of great walks stretching out from our back door, including the Forgotten Coast to the north and the Western Headlands of St.Davids Head and Ramsey Sound, and the Southern Bays for beachcombing and tide line explorations. Together we’ll pick the best distance and location to suit the weather each day, and gently coordinate walks around conversation and connections.
All you need to take part in this weekend is a good pair of boots, a warm hat, waterproofs and a small daypack. We will help with food for shared lunches and arrange shuttle transport if needed to and from the train station as well as around the peninsula. TYF will also supply Kelly Kettles for beach brews and steer you to the best pubs in St.Davids for beer and food.GET IN TOUCH
Sea Kayaking the Atlantic Coast
8-10 May 2015
The coastal kayaking in Pembrokeshire is as good as any in the world, with a combination of sheltered coves and creeks, surf beaches, cliffs, islands and tide races that give a choice of routes and activities for paddlers of all ages and abilities.
The vibrant wildlife includes porpoise, dolphins and otters if you’re lucky as well as thousands of wheeling seabirds in spring and early summer. Whilst the Pembrokeshire Coast Path takes you around the top of cliffs, it’s from the sea that you’ll get to experience the best caves, arches and views of the edge of Wales.
TYF skilled adventure guides excel at ensuring that kayakers of all standards can get the most from the experience, picking the best distance and location to suit your ability and the weather, whilst gently coordinating conversation and connections. We have an extensive range of sit on top kayaks that are perfect for beginners and sunny days with surf, white water kayaks for frothy play and sea kayaks for longer journeys or multi-day expeditions. Bring all of your own equipment if you want, or rent from us with a 20% Play for the Planet discount.GET IN TOUCH
29-31 May 2015 | 4-6 September 2015
Pembrokeshire’s Blue Flag sandy beaches are perfect for beginners as well as more experienced surfers, and the relative quiet of the ocean here compared to Devon and Cornwall gives more time for riding waves, and less time dodging crowds.
If you’ve already experienced the buzz and addiction of time spent surfing, you’ll know what we’re talking about – as they say “only a surfer knows the feeling”. On the other hand, if surfing’s combination of exhilarating rides, paddling effort and patience are on your bucket list, then look no further. TYF have been teaching surfing in St.Davids for three decades and love the smiles and achievement from thousands of people catching their first rides with us on the waves of Whitesands or Newgale.
TYF surf guides will steer experienced surfers to the best beaches for the conditions and make sure that people of all standards get the most from the experience.
Beginners or improvers can rent a board or book as many lessons as they want, with a 20% Play for the Planet discount. More advanced surfers can rent body boards, performance boards or SUPS with the same discount or turn up and play with us using their own kit.GET IN TOUCH
18-20 September 2015
With the sea at its warmest, plenty of hedgerow bounty to be found and no crowds, early autumn is the finest time of year for a multi-adventure exploration. On our final Play For The Planet weekend of the year, we connect fully with the best of the Pembrokeshire coast with a sweet combination of sit on top kayaking, snorkeling and coasteering some of the best sections of the Southern Bays Traverse.
A leisurely lunch on a secluded beach and maybe a driftwood fire will ensure well filled bellies, smoke in your hair and salt on smiling faces before we head to one of the great local pubs for an evening of stories, mischief and planning small (or large) revolutions in sustainability.
We will provide anything you need for this Coastal Explorer weekend offering a 20% Play for the Planet discount and you need no experience to take part. The coasteering, kayaking and snorkeling will be pitched to suit your skill level, and whether your appetite for play is more genteel and sedate or fleet footed and flat out, we’ll serve up the coasteering and kayaking adventure for you.GET IN TOUCH
